How the Work Hours Calculator Works
The basic calculation
Shiftfy converts each day's start and end time into minutes, subtracts the end from the start, and then removes any break time. The result is the number of minutes you worked that day.
Converting to decimal hours
Payroll systems often use decimal hours. To convert, divide minutes by 60. For example, 7 hours and 30 minutes becomes 7.5 hours. Shiftfy performs this conversion automatically for every day and for the weekly total.
Overnight shifts
If your end time is earlier than your start time, Shiftfy assumes the shift crosses midnight and adds 24 hours to the calculation.
Overtime
Shiftfy highlights any time over 40 hours in a week as overtime. Actual overtime rules vary by employer and location, so always confirm with your own payroll policy.
